  • General information

The international driving license is only necessary if you want to drive a motor vehicle outside the EU.

The international driver's license is an additional document to your national driver's license. It is intended to make it easier for the police abroad to check whether the driver is authorized to drive a motor vehicle.

There are two different types of international driver's license.

    1. One is the international driving license according to article 7 and annex E of the International Convention on Motor Traffic of 24.04.1926. This is intended for the following countries: Argentina, Chile, Iceland, Egypt, India, Iraq, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Syria, Turkey, Vatican City and the United Kingdom.
    2. For all other countries, the international driver's license is valid according to art. 41 and Annex 7 of the Convention on Road Traffic of 08.11.1968.
