For the strategic further development of the housing market, the city administration has been working on a housing market strategy with Gewos since summer 2022 and has now published an interim report on the housing market analysis and the results of the housing demand forecast. A monitoring committee with representatives from politics, the housing industry and administration is closely involved in the process and has already met five times.
The unit is divided into three areas:
- Strategic planning and urban development
- Statistics and Urban Research (Statistics Office)
- Geoinformation and geodata analysis
Among the core tasks of Strategic Planning and Urban Development include the observation, analysis and evaluation of current and past processes of urban and regional development. Based on the findings, forward-looking concepts and strategies are developed in cooperation with other actors within and outside the administration. This results in recommendations for action for the administration and politics.
The Department of Statistics and Urban Research is the statistics office of the City of Wolfsburg. The tasks of the statistics office include the analysis, processing and publication of statistical data. An important goal of the statistics office is to make the data accessible to all interested parties in an understandable form. A core task is the central data storage (data warehouse), which enables the operation of the Wolfsburg Online Municipal Statistics (WOKS) and a variety of urban research projects in addition to the provision of classic reports. The statistics office sees itself as a service provider for administration, politics and citizens, which is also evident, for example, in the central coordination and implementation of all surveys and evaluations of the city administration.
The Geoinformation and Geodata Analysis Department is the central competence and coordination center for geodata and geographic information systems (GIS) for all areas of the Wolfsburg city administration. Via the public geoportal, the city of Wolfsburg makes various digital thematic maps and geoinformation freely available to citizens and companies.
