Certificate of good conduct

  • General information

    There are different types of certificates of good conduct:

    Information to a private body: Certificate of good conduct of document type "NB" (for example for you or your employer). You will receive this certificate of good conduct directly at home.

    Information to a public authority: (e.g. driving license office, trade office or district government) This certificate of good conduct will be sent directly to the authority.

    If you require a certificate of good conduct of the document type "OB", we need the following information when you submit your application the exact address of the authority and the purpose of use (e.g. employment, extension of a permit, etc.).

    Extended certificate of good conduct to a public authority: This certificate of good conduct has been issued since 01.05.2010 for persons who work professionally, volunteer or otherwise work or are to work with children or young people. The application must be submitted with written confirmation from the youth welfare office, for example. This must state that the person requesting the extended certificate of good conduct from the applicant fulfills the requirements according to §30a para. 2 BZRG.

    The application for the certificate of good conduct is sent electronically immediately to the Federal Office of Justice.

    You will receive the reply within two to four weeks.

    Apply for a certificate of good conduct online

    Since September 1, 2014, anyone who needs a certificate of good conduct can save themselves the trouble of going to the authorities. With the electronic ID card or the electronic residence permit, certificates of good conduct can now be applied for and paid for online via the online portal www.fuehrungszeugnis.bund.de of the Federal Office of Justice.


    To be able to submit an application online, the following requirements must be met:
    • A new ID card or an electronic residence permit, in each case with the online ID function activated.
    • A card reader for reading the ID document
    • An ID card app from version 1.13.. Unfortunately, earlier versions cannot be used. The ID card app can be downloaded at www.ausweisapp.bund.de.
    • If necessary, a digital capture device (for example, scanner or digital camera) to upload evidence.
