Election to the 21st German Bundestag on 23.02.2025
On Sunday, February 23, 2025, the 21st German Bundestag will be elected between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. Wolfsburg belongs to constituency 51 in the Bundestag election, together with the district of Helmstedt as well as the joint municipality of Brome and the joint municipality of Boldecker Land. The district electoral authority for this election is the district of Helmstedt.

Anyone who has German citizenship, is at least 18 years old and has lived in the Federal Republic of Germany for at least three months is eligible to vote. In addition, their main place of residence must be in Wolfsburg. Each voter has two votes: A first vote for a direct candidate in the constituency, and a second vote for the choice of a state election proposal (party).

Application for a polling card
If you are unable to visit your polling station on election Sunday, you have the option of casting your vote by postal ballot . To do so, you must apply for a polling card with postal voting documents. The election notifications are expected to be sent out from 22.01.2025. You can submit the application either using the form on the back of your polling card or using the QR code printed on the front.

How do I apply for a postal vote?
The postal vote can be applied for in various ways:
- By completing the application on the back of the election notification and then sending it to the electoral office of the city of Wolfsburg.
- By sending an informal email to wahlen@stadt.wolfsburg.de (please state your name, date of birth and address).
- By scanning the QR code on the election notification.
- In person at the postal voting office in the town hall, where the documents can be collected. Alternatively, you can also vote directly on site. Please bring a photo ID and, if applicable, the polling card.

The postal voting office is located in Town Hall A (Porschestraße 49), room A051 (meeting room 5, former cashier's hall).

What are the opening hours of the postal voting office?
Due to the shortened deadlines for the early Bundestag elections, extended opening hours apply:
- Monday to Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Until when can I apply for a postal vote?
Postal voting can be requested until Friday, February 21, at 3:00 pm.
After that, documents will only be issued in justified individual cases, for example in the event of proven sudden illness. This option is available until 3 p.m. on election day. The red ballot letter must be received by the electoral office, Porschestraße 49, by 18:00 on election day in order for your vote to be counted.

I have fallen ill at short notice and cannot go to the polling station. How can I still vote?
In the event of illness , postal voting documents can still be requested until 3 p.m. on election day (February 23) . For this purpose, the proxy on the election notification can be filled out and the documents can be collected from the postal voting office in the town hall by an authorized person upon presentation of a photo ID.

By when must the completed election documents be returned?
The completed election documents must be submitted to the town hall by 6 p.m. on election day (February 23) at the latest - either by post or by dropping them in the town hall's letterbox. Documents received after this time can no longer be considered by law. It is recommended that election documents are sent by post at least three working days before the election. For mailings from abroad, correspondingly earlier.
Important: The voter bears the risk for the timely receipt of the documents.

Where can I vote on election day?
Anyone wishing to vote in person on election Sunday (February 23) can do so at their polling station between 8:00 and 18:00. The address of the polling station is noted on the polling card.

How do I fill in the postal voting documents?
Voters receive the following documents: ballot paper, ballot paper, white ballot paper envelope, red ballot paper envelope and a reminder.
- Fold the completed ballot paper, place it in the white ballot paper envelope and seal it.
- Place the white ballot paper envelope in the red ballot paper envelope.
- Sign the ballot paper and also place it in the red ballot paper envelope.

I have applied for a postal vote but have not received my documents or have lost them. Can I still vote?
Yes, in this case new ballot papers can be issued at the postal voting office in the town hall until Saturday, February 22, at 12:00 noon . To prevent double voting, the previously issued ballot papers will be marked as invalid in the system.
