On the way to becoming a smart city, a comprehensive digital infrastructure is the most important prerequisite - not only for Wolfsburg as a business location, but also for Wolfsburg's citizens.
A good digital infrastructure strengthens and secures access to modern digital services at work, at school and in medical care, among other things. The fast and reliable availability of data is now also very important for areas such as smart homes, communication and entertainment.

This is why Wolfsburg is focusing on subsidized expansion in addition to its own commercial expansion. In areas where private-sector expansion has failed, the aim is to use subsidy programs to ensure successful expansion and thus achieve nationwide coverage in Wolfsburg.

The initial expansion of the underserved areas, the so-called "white spots", has already been successfully completed with the implementation of the first funding program.
