Deregistering the residence

  • General information

    A deregistration must only be made with

    • moving abroad
    • Giving up a main or secondary residence without moving into a new residence
    take place.

    When moving within Germany, you only register with the new municipality of residence. Deregistration is automatically sent from there to the previous registration office.

    Deregistration is possible at the earliest one week before moving out; the registration register is updated on the date of moving out.

    Deregistration of the secondary residence must be carried out at the registration office of the main residence.

    When deregistering a family, the identification documents of all family members are required. Children over 18 years of age must deregister themselves.

  • Deadlines

    The deregistration at the registration office has to be done within two weeks.
