Soil moisture sensors

How are our urban trees actually doing?

Wolfsburg uses digital soil sensors so that watering can be carried out in a targeted and resource-saving manner. They continuously measure the moisture in the root area of the city's trees and provide real-time data on when a tree actually needs water.

The sensors record the soil moisture at different depths and make it clear whether a location is sufficiently supplied with water or whether watering is necessary. This allows irrigation to be planned efficiently and sustainably based on data - especially in dry and hot phases.

The project is part of the "Resilient Wolfsburg" initiative and is being implemented together with the Green Department. The aim is to manage irrigation across the city in a resource-efficient manner and to optimize the use of water sustainably .

By using this function, you agree that the data may also be transferred to third countries, outside the European Economic Area, without an adequate level of data protection (especially USA). It is possible that authorities may access the data without any legal remedy. You can revoke your consent at any time. Further information: Privacy policy
