Health Regions Lower Saxony: Wolfsburg

What are health regions?

The "Lower Saxony Health Regions" project was launched by the Lower Saxony Ministry for Social Affairs, Health and Equality. It is funded by the AOK Lower Saxony, the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians of Lower Saxony, the substitute health insurance funds and the BKK Landesverband Mitte Lower Saxony.

The aim of the health region is the development of communal structures and innovative projects, which aim at a demand-oriented health care close to the place of residence. For this purpose, an intensive networking of the actors of the health care system on site as well as from other areas of the regional provision of public services is stimulated.

    Health Conference 2023

This year, our health conference is dedicated to the theme of "Gender Diversity in Health Care."

We have narrowed down this broad topic. We will talk about the challenges children and youth face when they experience their own gender and sexuality as inappropriate or pathological, or when they experience the reactions of others as discriminatory or pathological. Gender incongruence, gender dysphoria, and trans health are now common terms-but what exactly do they mean?

We find that it is difficult to talk about these issues; language and our own concepts quickly reach their limits: This is already a good reason to talk about this topic and to practice talking about it in the public space of an event.

It is important for us to distinguish between biological gender, individual gender identity and gender expressivity - each of these aspects is a lifelong development that is never fully completed. In the sessions we will also look at how these developmental tasks can be supported in a counseling and treatment way.

The (out)living of biological gender and of individual gender identity happens in social roles. In some social milieus there is great acceptance of role diversity, in other social groups there are clear ideas about what "male" and what "female" means. In this series of events, we ask ourselves how children and young people in our society cope with conflicts when parts of society vehemently demand "diversity" and other parts of society just as vehemently demand "heteronormativity".

We invite you to attend the events of the series "Gender Diversity in Health Care" to discuss this diverse topic with us!
