Self-help

Self-help plays a significant role in the treatment of people with mental illnesses and is now an integral part of the psychiatric support system.

Das Logo des Sozialpsychiatrischen Verbundes

It serves the exchange and activation of resources and self-healing powers. In a self-help group, people meet to exchange experiences and learn from each other. It is good not to be alone with your mental health problems and to meet people who have had similar experiences. Self-help groups are also a good way to get to know new people and do things together.

When someone becomes mentally ill, other people are always affected too: Parents, partners, friends, relatives, work colleagues. This can also lead to anxiety, helplessness, excessive demands and feelings of guilt among relatives. It is important that family members inform themselves about the mental illness, that they can set themselves apart and learn to take good care of themselves.
