Heiligendorf history

HISTORY
Year Events
1153

THE FIRST MENTION
On December 2, 1153, Bishop Ulrich of Halberstadt confirms his possessions to St. John's Abbey in Gatersleben. The text in the enumeration contains the important quote for Heiligendorf: "...preterea decima in Helgendorp..." (document book of the Hochstift Halberstadt) - this means that the tithe from Heiligendorf goes to the monastery.
This refers to a small parish that had long since been completed and whose beginnings are probably forever shrouded in mystery.

1200

THE CHURCH
At this time, the patronage of our church belonged to the St. Cyriacus Monastery in Brunswick and the St. John's Monastery in Halberstadt.

1875

1877

The village Parochie Heiligendorf, Inspektion und Amt Fallersleben, Kreis Gifhorn, General Superintendantur Celle, Landdrastei Lüneburg, Provinz Hannover, contains a church, a parish, a parish widowhood together with house and garden, a school, 14 farmers, four half-horses, three thirds-horses and 29 dung farms, eleven Brinksitzer, five cultivators and 27 cultivation places, a windmill and a watermill.

1885

THE POST
On April 1, 1884, a postal agency was set up in Heiligendorf, which belonged to the Fallersleben Imperial Post Office (decree of the Ober-Postdirection Hannover).
There was also a telephone from 1885.
Mail was delivered from the Fallersleben post office by horse-drawn country mail wagons.

1922

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
For centuries, the inhabitants of the villages have been plagued by frequent fires. Due to the use of open fires and the construction methods used in the past, these terrible events occurred again and again. Many inscriptions on the beams of the old houses tell of this.
In 1922, the inhabitants founded the first volunteer fire department.

Heiligendorf had 726 inhabitants in 1925.
Due to the influx of refugees after the Second World War and the convenient location to the Volkswagen factory, the number of inhabitants rose to 1196 in 1950.

In 1972, Heiligendorf became a district of Wolfsburg when it was incorporated into the city.

With the development areas Hopfenkamp, 2000 Hirtgarten, 2010 Hasenmorgen and the Krummer Morgen area currently under construction, 2400 people currently live here.
