New outdoor facilities planned for Leonardo da Vinci School and Ratsgymnasium

Wolfsburg is planning extensive investment in the redesign of the outdoor facilities at two important school locations. On June 18, the city council will decide on the final resolutions for the measures at the Leonardo da Vinci School in Kreuzheide and the Ratsgymnasium in the city center.

An overall concept with an investment volume of around 2.65 million euros is planned for the primary section of the Leonardo da Vinci School. The redesigned outdoor facilities are intended to create an age-appropriate, barrier-free and climate-resilient learning and recreation area for the primary school pupils. The aim is close spatial and educational integration with the neighboring comprehensive school. The planned measures include a central small playing field, a bicycle course, a green schoolyard with mature trees and elements of sustainable rainwater management. Completion is scheduled for summer 2027.

At Ratsgymnasium, which has been undergoing a comprehensive modernization process for years, the redesign of the outdoor facilities is estimated to cost around 5.55 million euros. In addition to a new barrier-free arrival area with a high quality of stay and improved traffic access, a variety of exercise and retreat areas are to be created - from a green classroom to a central multifunctional playing field. Here too, particular emphasis will be placed on ecological sustainability and educational usability. The construction work is expected to begin in spring 2026 and be completed by 2028.

School operations are guaranteed at both locations at all times during the construction phases. In addition, sufficient open spaces will be provided so that attractive and safe outdoor areas are available for pupils even during the work.

"Both projects are exemplary for the further development of Wolfsburg as an attractive and future-oriented educational location. By modernizing the outdoor facilities, we are not only creating new spaces for learning and playing, but are also providing important impetus for sustainable urban development and integration," explains city planning officer Kai-Uwe Hirschheide.
