This is a rare achievement in the energy cooperative landscape, as it brings together strong, regionally rooted partners who have different competencies and pursue a common goal: Advancing the energy transition locally with the possibility of citizen participation.
The cooperative builds and operates renewable energy plants in Wolfsburg and the surrounding area. 16 of its own photovoltaic plants currently supply electricity to the grid. New projects are constantly under consideration. In principle, all types of renewable energies are conceivable.
As new projects become available, additional members can be added, offering citizen participation. The following applies:
- Anyone who lives or owns a property in Wolfsburg or the surrounding communities can take part. The same applies to legal entities with a local administrative seat.
- Membership is by simple registration. The compulsory share during membership (cooperative share) is 500 euros. The notice period is two years. This makes it easy to join and leave the cooperative.

Members receive one vote at the General Meeting. A maximum of 3 votes per member is possible. This ensures that the voting weights remain balanced.
- The controlling bodies are the elected Executive Board and Supervisory Board as well as the General Meeting. The cooperative association checks the formation and operation of the cooperative. This minimizes the risk for members and liability is limited to the share contributed.
- The aim of the members of Energiegenossenschaft Region Wolfsburg eG is to jointly drive forward the energy transition in the region.

Photovoltaic system on the roof of Parsau elementary school goes into operation
The photovoltaic system on the roof of Parsau elementary school went into operation on March 1, 2021. The project was implemented in cooperation with the Wolfsburg energy cooperative and the joint municipality of Brome. The system has an electrical output of just under 13 kilowatt peak (kWp). Around 60 percent of the energy generated is used by the school itself.
Last Friday, a small inauguration of the system took place together with the mayor of the joint municipality Manuela Peckmann, the head of the elementary school Laura Kirchner, the board of the Wolfsburg energy cooperative Sybille Schönbach and Andreas Bauer, the chairman of the supervisory board Ulrich Lange and the project planner Dipl.-Phys. Dennis Sie from Sinaki GmbH.
Andreas Bauer: "I am delighted that we were able to implement this project together with the joint municipality of Brome. I would particularly like to thank our project planner, Dipl.-Phys. Dennis Sie, Managing Director of Sinaki GmbH, for the really fast and professional implementation.
Sybille Schönbach: I hope for many more projects together with the joint municipality, but also with other municipalities.
Manuela Peckmann: Many thanks to those involved in the Wolfsburg Energy Cooperative. This project makes a further contribution to the expansion of renewable energies in the joint municipality of Brome. More will follow.

Photovoltaics

Wolfsburg has a great deal of potential for the use of solar energy, which all Wolfsburg residents can use themselves. Further information can be found in the city of Wolfsburg's solar register.
The Wolfsburg Region Energy Cooperative is constantly examining new implementation options for photovoltaic systems. Currently, 16 of its own photovoltaic systems in the region (Grasleben, Lehre, Velpke and Wolfsburg) feed green electricity into the public grid or into the buildings on which they are installed.
