Apply for historical license plate

  • General information

    The vehicle must have been put on the road for the first time at least 30 years ago (= first registration), correspond as far as possible to the original condition and be in a good state of preservation.

    These requirements are set out by the technical inspection authorities in a special classic car report in accordance with § 23 of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO).

    If your vehicle meets these requirements, the corresponding license plate will be marked with an "H" after the identification number. is marked with an "H".

    The history license plate can also be applied for in the course of a registration or transfer.

  • Required documents

    • Identity card or passport with registration certificate

    • SEPA direct debit mandate for the collection of vehicle tax

    May also be required upon application:

    by an authorized person/representative:
    • issued power of attorney (see form below) including personal document of the authorizing person and the authorized representative
    for companies (GmbH, AG, OHG, KG, UG haftungsbeschränkt, foreign legal form):
    • Current extract from the commercial register, current business registration, power of attorney of the managing director or authorized signatory or personal appearance of the managing director / authorized signatory and their identity card / passport
    for associations:
    • Extract from the register of associations; identity card or passport and power of attorney of the designated representative(s)
    for freelancers:
    • Proof of membership of a chamber (e.g. medical association, chamber of notaries, veterinary association, etc.) or
    • Certificate from the tax office

    for companies under civil law:

    • Complete overview of the partners (usually partnership agreement)
    • Power of attorney and declaration of the person in whose name the registration is to be made (confirmed by the signatures of all shareholders) as well as the identity card/passport of the shareholder in whose name the registration is to be made

  • Fees

    Fees are charged in accordance with the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt) from an amount of 27.90 euros. The actual amount of the fee can only be determined on site on presentation of the complete documentation.

    Additional costs for the creation of license plates are not included and are not charged by charged by the vehicle registration authority.

    If there are any outstanding fees, these must be paid on the day of registration in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Registration Requirements Act. otherwise the registration of the vehicle will be refused.
