| 12th century |
The village was founded in the period of the Wendish land conquest, which generally falls in the 12th century. The original structure of the village, which still clearly identifies Brackstedt as a round village, indicates a planned Wendish settlement.

| 1887 |
A new school and farm building were built. Classes were held there until 1969. Our "old school" was restored in 2025 and regained its historical appearance.
|
| 20th century |
In 1905, a census for Brackstedt recorded 215 people in 44 residential buildings. In 1939 there were 251 and in July 1946 suddenly 491 people. The increase was mainly due to the admission of 260 refugees and displaced persons. Brackstedt had few opportunities for development as a farming village - the small size of the agricultural land and poor soil conditions hampered growth. The population fell to 359 people in 1959. From 1960 onwards, there were successive settlements that were no longer related to agriculture - it was no longer a pure farming village.

Incorporation - Brackstedt became a district of the city of Wolfsburg. The population grew slightly until the turn of the millennium. From 2004, the development of new building areas brought a considerable boost, so that the town had almost 2000 inhabitants by 2025.

Experience Brackstedt
We are over 800 years old and yet Wolfsburg's youngest village, nestled in fields, meadows and forests. This means that every resident can be in nature within 10 minutes. This also offers children numerous opportunities to get to know nature. For example, the Kleine Aller, which forms the border to Tappenbeck and Jembke and therefore also to the district of Gifhorn. The small river is home to many small animals as well as nutria and beavers.
Beavers can be seen at the Schafteich pond, roe deer can be observed, foxes and hares are here, but are less common. If you look up to the sky, you can spot the local storks, red and black kites, kestrels, goshawks and various woodpeckers. The diverse home gardens and mixed woodland provide a variety of woodland and songbirds. There is a lot to discover here!
Sports club
SV Brackstedt is over 100 years old and offers a wide range of activities from toddlers to senior citizens. It's worth taking a look at the website. www.sv-brackstedt.de
Church
Our village does not have a church, as it is a Slavic village in origin and therefore pagan settlers created the Rundling. Church services are held in the cemetery chapel. You can find more information at: www.kirche-kästorf.de/gemeindebrief
Volunteer fire department
A compulsory fire department was set up in 1876. The volunteer fire department was founded in 1928. Today, the fire department comprises the following departments in addition to the active ones: Old-age department, youth fire department and, since 2024, a children's fire department. So the next generation is taken care of. We are delighted that there are always volunteers to carry out this valuable work. www.feuerwehr-brackstedt.de
The BFK
The Brackstedt Förderkreis Sport, Brauchtumspflege und Denkmalschutz e. V. - BFK for short - is an association with a young tradition. The working group "Our village should become more beautiful" was founded in 1984. This grew into the BFK, which now has over 100 members. In 1997, we signed a contract with the city of Wolfsburg for the maintenance of urban green spaces and footpaths. Based on this contract, the BFK receives grants from the city. In addition to donations and contributions, the city grants enable the BFK to realize many things in Brackstedt. From the very beginning, many plants were planted and cared for, a stork's nest was erected, an information box was built, a bookcase was donated and 17 benches were installed in and around the village. Both the kindergarten and the children and young people of SV Brackstedt are always generously supported. Together with many helpers, we contribute to a beautiful, inviting village image. We also organize events such as the May Day celebration and Thanksgiving, with a self-tied May Day wreath and harvest crown, a St. Nicholas event for the children and an Advent celebration under the Christmas tree. In addition, there are irregular activities such as apple picking and masting, tours and nature explorations. The BFK also publishes the village newspaper "Niet ut Brackstedt".
The round table
The Round Table is a meeting of all associations and groups. Dates and joint activities are planned there, e.g. our village festivals or the international breakfast.
