"You are not alone"

Encouragement booklet for school changers published

The transition from elementary school to secondary school is a significant step for many children - often associated with curiosity and excitement, but also with many questions and uncertainties. In order to support this new stage of life in a positive way, the city of Wolfsburg has published a school guide: the encouragement booklet for secondary school. It sets a clear signal for orientation, participation and child-friendly support on this important path.

"The encouragement booklet shows our pupils in an empathetic way: You are not alone. Many have been in the same situation before you - and have grown from it," says Iris Bothe, Head of the Department for Youth, Education, Integration and Social Affairs. "We want this big step to be taken with confidence."

The lovingly designed booklet was created by a small project team in participatory workshops together with pupils. It not only contains important information on school types, afternoon activities and bus connections, but also communicates this in an appealing way. It also talks openly about uncertainties and fears - and how to deal with them. Personal testimonials from children create a sense of closeness and provide encouragement.

"Our aim is to provide families in Wolfsburg with the best possible support - not only with facts, but also with heart," emphasizes Christoph Andacht, Head of the Schools Division of the City of Wolfsburg. "The school guide is designed to do just that: understandable, practical and encouraging."

A powerful tool: the digital Wolfsburg magnifying glass. It complements the booklet and supports parents and children alike with a school finder, information on all-day options and much more.
