Experimental stage shows Aeschylus' "The Persians"
After 57 years of dedicated theater work, the Wolfsburg Experimental Stage is bidding farewell to its audience with a special production: on Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28, both at 8 p.m., the ensemble will be staging Aeschylus' ancient tragedy The Persians at Wolfsburg Castle.
The oldest surviving drama in world literature tells of the suffering of the vanquished after the naval battle of Salamis (480 BC) - a courageous change of perspective that is still moving today. Aeschylus, himself a participant in the war, gives the losers a voice and thus places a deeply humanitarian idea at the center of his work.
