Tunnel is cleaned
The annual cleaning and maintenance work in the tunnel at Wolfsburg Nordkopf (Heßlinger Straße/Heinrich-Nordhoff-Straße) will take place from Monday, July 14, until probably Friday, July 18. In order to disrupt traffic as little as possible, the city is carrying out the work during the plant vacations. Work will only be carried out in the direction that is not affected by rush-hour traffic. This means that the lane coming from Fallersleben in the direction of the St. Annen junction (eastbound) will be affected from the morning, while the opposite side (westbound) will be affected in the afternoon.
For the project, one lane in each direction will only be closed on one side, so that one lane is always open in both directions at all times. This approach has proved successful in recent years and has not led to any significant traffic disruption.
Regular cleaning serves to maintain the value of tunnel structures and is essential for road safety. To clean the tunnel walls and ceilings quickly and thoroughly, high-pressure water technology is used to remove dirt and deposits from both vertical and horizontal surfaces. Any dirty water is collected directly on site using the integrated stationary wastewater collection system and then disposed of professionally.
