Wolfsburg rent index to be updated
Wolfsburg has had a qualified rent index since January 1, 2024. After two years, the legal requirements stipulate that the rent index must be adjusted either by means of a new random sample or by applying the consumer price index (CPI). On the recommendation of the administration, the rent index working group decided to update the index using the CPI. According to the CPI increase in the comparison period from March 2023 to March 2025 - the sample month for the data collection for the first-time creation of the rent index was March 2023 - the rent index will increase by 4.39%. The tenants' association Braunschweig und Umgebung e. V. and Haus & Grund Wolfsburg und Umgebung e. V. have already approved the adjusted rent index as voting members of the working group. The Wolfsburg City Council also approved this update at its meeting on December 10.
The rent index is an overview of the local comparative rent. The comparative rent is based on the usual costs that have been agreed or changed in Wolfsburg over the last six years for housing of a comparable type, size, facilities, quality and location. Following approval by Wolfsburg City Council, the adjusted rent index will apply from January 1, 2026.
