Wolfsburg becomes EM location

Volkswagen Arena is the venue for the UEFA Women's EURO 2029

UEFA has decided: Germany will host the UEFA Women's EURO 2029 - and we in Wolfsburg will be involved as a host city. Our city will once again be the venue for top-class women's soccer on the international stage. The Volkswagen Arena is one of the eight German stadiums where Europe's best teams will play for the title in 2029.

UEFA's decision fulfills a great wish - for us as a city, for VfL Wolfsburg and for all fans of women's soccer. Wolfsburg already hosted the World Cup in 2011 and impressively demonstrated that we can celebrate soccer festivals. Now the next chapter follows.

A soccer festival for everyone

Wolfsburg stands for sporting enthusiasm, short distances, experience with major events - and a city society that goes along with it. "This is a great day for our city! The award of the UEFA Women's EURO 2029 confirms that Wolfsburg is recognized throughout Europe as a city of sport. We are looking forward to a soccer festival that will have an impact far beyond the games - on our urban society, on women's soccer and on the perception of Wolfsburg as an attractive host," says Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann.

Dr. Tim Schumacher, Managing Director of VfL Wolfsburg-Fußball GmbH, says: "The award is a great confirmation for women's soccer in Germany - and for Wolfsburg as an established location. We offer outstanding and first-class conditions for players, teams and fans for the UEFA Women's EURO 2029. The fact that the Volkswagen Arena will now be part of a top European tournament makes us proud and underlines the prominent role Wolfsburg plays nationally and internationally in the development of women's soccer."

Motivation for the region

The commitment also means a lot in sporting terms: "Our players have made their mark on European women's soccer in recent years - and many young talents are looking to VfL for inspiration. Now a European Championship tournament in our own stadium will be a further motivational boost for the entire region," explains Peter Christiansen, Managing Director of VfL Wolfsburg-Fußball GmbH. "For young players, fans and the Bundesliga, this is a moment that shows Women's soccer in Germany belongs on the big stage. We are proud to once again provide a central stage for this."

Positive effects for Wolfsburg's economy

The EURO will also bring a breath of fresh air to the economy: "The UEFA Women's EURO 2029 will provide lasting impetus for the strengthening and further development of tourism, gastronomy, trade and the economy in our city," says Jens Hofschröer, Head of Economic Affairs and Managing Director of WMG. "As WMG, we look forward to contributing to the successful implementation with our expertise and presenting Wolfsburg on the European stage as a modern, cosmopolitan and sports-loving location."

Michael Meeske, Managing Director of VfL Wolfsburg-Fußball GmbH, emphasized: "The decision is a strong signal for the visibility of women's soccer and shows how great its potential now is. A tournament of this size offers enormous opportunities for marketing, reach and social impact. The fact that we are now part of the EURO gives us the opportunity to further accelerate the positive development of women's soccer and inspire new target groups."

The road to the 2029 summer fairytale

With the approval, the concrete planning phase now begins. We have the best prerequisites: a modern stadium, short distances, sporting passion - and plenty of anticipation. Our goal is clear: we want a summer fairytale in 2029.
