Securing medical care
More support for GPs and specialists

Good medical care is one of the foundations of a good life. That is why we are continuing to develop our existing funding. In addition to the support for medical practices, which has been in place for more than ten years, we will focus more on supporting existing practices in future - and on new ideas.
Targeted strengthening of existing practices
With the revision, we are introducing support for existing practices and innovation. This means that we are supporting practices in their further development - for example in terms of organization, digital solutions, relieving the burden of everyday practice work or barrier-free conversions.
At the same time, the directive is becoming more specific: There are fixed deadlines, more precise specifications for the use of funds and a clear limit on the amount of funding. In future, a maximum of 100,000 euros per measure will be possible - with a personal contribution of at least 50 percent.
Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann emphasizes: "Reliable medical care is a central component of public services and a decisive factor for the quality of life in our city. With the further development of the funding guideline, we are sending a clear signal: Wolfsburg is taking responsibility and creating long-term prospects - for doctors as well as for the people who live here."
Funding closer to demand
An adjustment also made sense from a technical perspective. Health department head Andreas Bauer explains: "During practical implementation, we realized that we needed more clarity in order to achieve the purpose of the funding - the concrete improvement of medical care - even more clearly. With the new version, we are creating more precise framework conditions and also making it possible for specialist groups that are particularly relevant to primary care to benefit from the funding."
The goal is clear: the funding instruments should be even better tailored to what is really needed locally.
Attracting young talent at an early stage
In addition to supporting practices, we are also focusing on the doctors of tomorrow. With targeted incentives, we want to attract young doctors to work in Wolfsburg later on during their training.
The financial resources for the years 2026 to 2028 remain unchanged. A total of up to EUR 620,000 and EUR 670,000 respectively will be available each year so that we can reliably implement the measures.
Our proposal is currently being discussed politically. A final decision is planned for the council meeting in March.
