City center: Rothenfelder Straße will be closed
LSW works on district heating pipeline - closure from February to fall

"We are aware that the closure of a central street in the city center will affect many people in their everyday lives. That's why such measures are not decided lightly, but carefully weighed up. Together with LSW, WMG and WVG, we have found good solutions for everyone involved," explains Andreas Bauer, City Councillor for Citizens' Services, Health, Finance, Fire and Disaster Protection and Sport.
District heating pipes are from the 1950s
The current pair of district heating pipes was built in the 1950s to supply parts of the city center. Due to today's significantly higher performance requirements, these are no longer sufficient. The extension of the pipeline is also necessary in order to be able to develop the Q IV of the Sonnenkamp development area and to meet the increased performance requirements for the district heating supply in Sonnenkamp.
As some of the existing pipes run through building basements and are difficult to access, the reinforcement will be implemented in a permanently accessible route using state-of-the-art technology - with better insulation, leak monitoring and modern control elements. During the construction period, the heat supply will remain reliably secured via the existing pipeline. As part of the construction work, LSW is also renewing the district heating connections and laying new drinking water infrastructure in the construction area.
Stores remain accessible - buses will be rerouted
The first construction phase extends from the junction with Porschestraße to the junction with Alessandro-Volta-Straße. Work here is planned from February to August. The second construction phase is expected to begin in May and will affect the section between the junctions with Alessandro-Volta-Straße and Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, including the Rothenfelder Straße/Friedrich-Ebert-Straße junction. This section is expected to be worked on until the fall.
During this time, Rothenfelder Straße cannot be used as an east-west connection through the city center. The connection between Alessandro-Volta-Straße and Kolpingstraße will remain open for the entire construction period - including access to the underground parking garage under C&A and to the parking spaces behind the City-Galerie. Due to the construction site, the junction will only have one lane of traffic and traffic will be regulated by traffic lights.
In addition, the parking spaces along Rothenfelder Straße cannot be used during the works. However, the stores remain within walking distance. Wolfsburg Wirtschaft und Marketing GmbH (WMG) has already held talks with the businesses in advance and worked out individual solutions in some cases (e.g. for the delivery of goods).
Cars should take a wide detour around the roadworks, ideally from the Rothenfelder Straße/Berliner Ring junction via Berliner Ring to the Braunschweiger Straße/Siemensstraße junction and then back into the city center via Schiller Straße.
Poststrasse: one-way traffic regulation will be reversed
In addition, the one-way traffic regulations in Poststraße between Porschestraße and August-Horch-Passage will be reversed for the duration of the roadworks. This means that between February and the fall, this section of Poststrasse can only be driven on in the direction of Porschestrasse (eastbound) (and not from Porschestrasse to Poststrasse, westbound, as is normally the case). Furthermore, the last section of August-Horch-Passage will also become a one-way street, so that it will not be possible to drive from Poststraße into August-Horch-Passage during this time. The reversal of the one-way street regulation is necessary so that the stores and parking spaces in the northern Porschestraße can also be reached by car during the construction period.
Detour are signposted on site for pedestrians and cyclists. Wolfsburger Verkehrsgesellschaft (WVG) will also have to adjust its bus routes during the construction period. The "Mühlenpfad" and "C&A" stops will be closed. Lines 212, 218, 224, 231, 335 and 383 will be diverted via the "Kaufhof" and "Imperial" stops during the construction period. Further information on this will be published at www.wvg.de as soon as the work begins.
