Ideas competition for the Wolfsburg fire station: design awarded a prize
The ideas competition for the design of the foyer of the new fire and rescue station of the Wolfsburg professional fire department has been decided.

Students from the Braunschweig University of Art (HBK) developed artistic and design concepts for a contemporary and inviting interior design as part of the competition. The first prize went to Hye-Hyun Kim. Second prize went to Maria Ammann and third prize to Ricarda Scheringer. The jury particularly praised the high design quality, the creative approach to the location and the functional and atmospheric effect of the winning design.
"The fire station is far more than a functional building for fire and disaster protection. It is a visible promise from our city to its citizens: safety, reliability and trust," says city councillor Andreas Bauer.
Kai-Uwe Hirschheide, First City Councillor, City Planning Councillor and Head of Cultural Affairs for the City of Wolfsburg, adds: "By awarding the first prize for a work of art in the foyer of the fire station, we are honoring a position that thinks about this place not only artistically, but also socially. The combination of architecture and art in public space opens up a resonance space here in which function, design and responsibility meet. The winning concept impressively demonstrates how young, contemporary art can contribute to transforming a place of technical infrastructure into an identity-forming space for urban society."
It is planned to implement the winning design by Hye-Hyun Kim after processing and thus make a concrete artistic contribution to the design of the Wolfsburg fire station. The competition underlines the successful collaboration between the city of Wolfsburg, the Städtische Galerie im Schloss Wolfsburg and the Braunschweig University of Art.
Some of the submitted works can be seen until Sunday, March 22, in the rooms of the Städtische Galerie im Schloss Wolfsburg and provide a comprehensive insight into the variety of artistic approaches and ideas for designing public spaces.
