Operation of a restaurant

For the operation of a restaurant, snack bar, discotheque or similar establishment, a notification in accordance with the Nds. Restaurant Act is required at least four weeks before the opening. This notification can be made together with the business registration.

The following documents are required for the notification according to the Lower Saxony Restaurant Act:

Since 01.01.2012, this notification has replaced the previous application for a restaurant permit.

It is strongly recommended that the Veterinary Office is consulted in good time to ensure compliance with food hygiene regulations and the Urban Planning and Building Consultancy Division to ensure compliance with building regulations.

  • Identity card or passport
  • Extract from the commercial register for registered companies

If alcoholic beverages are to be served, additionally:

  • proof of application for a certificate of good conduct for submission to an authority
  • an extract from the central business register

If a temporary catering business is to be operated, for example at events, notification must also be given four weeks in advance. The aforementioned documents must also be submitted in this case.

If you wish to set up an outdoor area for catering purposes that is located on a public traffic area, you will require a special use permit.
