Climate protection project: LED floodlight

LED floodlight system Nordsteimke

On the B pitch of the Nordsteimke sports facility, the acceptance of the 2-day work to convert the existing floodlight system to a powerful and energy-efficient LED system took place on February 12, 2020. In addition to replacing the old metal halide lamps with new LED lamps, new power lines were laid and the electrical installation of the system was fundamentally renewed. The lamps are now controlled by radio. Furthermore, the floodlights were remeasured and realigned and a new overvoltage protection and control box were installed.

This modernization has resulted in savings in electricity costs of around 87 percent. In addition, CO² emissions from the lighting system will be reduced by 151 tons over the assumed 20-year service life. The total cost of the project is around 52,500 euros. The city of Wolfsburg receives funding from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. The maximum funding amounts to 11,815 euros and will be paid out in 2021.

With the National Climate Protection Initiative, the Federal Ministry has been initiating and funding numerous projects that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions since 2008. The programs and projects cover a broad spectrum of climate protection activities. From the development of long-term strategies to concrete assistance and investment support measures. This diversity guarantees good ideas. The National Climate Initiative helps to anchor climate protection at local level. It benefits consumers as well as companies, municipalities and educational institutions.
