General information
The loss or theft of the registration certificate part II/vehicle registration document must be reported to the (responsible) registration authority.
If the requirements are met, this authority will inform the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). The KBA will declare the lost or stolen registration certificate part II or the vehicle registration document invalid with a deadline for submission (tendering procedure). New vehicle documents can only be issued and a possible change of owner can only take place after completion of the procedure(approx. 3 weeks after initiation of the procedure).
Only the deregistration of the vehicle is possible at any time.
If the registration certificate part II/vehicle registration document is lost, an affidavit (taken at the registration office) is required. The affidavit must be taken by the person who has lost the registration certificate part II/vehicle registration document.
Alternatively, this can be submitted to a notary/lawyer.
In the case of companies, the company management expressly authorizes an employee to make an affidavit on behalf of the company.
Do not forget:
You must also report the theft to the police. Do this as soon as possible - for your own safety.
