Help for senior citizens

Ageing presents many people with new challenges such as physical illness, changes due to retirement, a change of environment or the loss of a partner or other loved ones. Das Logo des Sozialpsychiatrischen Verbundes

All of these challenges can be triggers for mental illness in senior citizens. However, there are also people who became mentally ill at a younger age and whose illness continues in old age. In addition, with increasing age, there is an ever-increasing risk of a decline in brain capacity and even the development of dementia. Dementia, depression, anxiety disorders, psychoses and dependency disorders are among the most common mental illnesses in old age.

Psychiatric help and support services for senior citizens in Wolfsburg are presented below.

Offers of help and support

AGE - Psychiatric help for older citizens

The AGE (counseling for relatives, memory consultation, relief talks) is a contact point for older people with mental illnesses and their relatives. The counseling center is a cooperation between the city of Wolfsburg and the AWO Psychiatry Center Königslutter. Care is provided on an outpatient and outreach basis. The members of the multi-professional team offer competent advice and psychosocial support. It coordinates medical, social and nursing care services for people with a geriatric psychiatric illness who wish to remain in their familiar home environment. In addition to individual support, the team offers advice for relatives or family members who are caring for an elderly person with a mental illness.
