Are you interested in taking on legal guardianship as a professional guardian or as a volunteer?
We will be happy to advise you if you would like to find out more about the profession of caregiver and advise you on taking on voluntary care.
-
What is legal guardianship?
Anyone who is no longer able to cope with everyday life independently due to an illness or disability can be assigned a guardian as their legal representative. The guardian then helps the person concerned to manage their official, financial or health matters, for example. If you find out that a person is in need of help, you can request legal guardianship for them. To do this, contact the local court responsible for the person's place of residence.
-
Who can provide care and how is it compensated?
In principle, any adult person with legal capacity can provide care. Anyone who would like to provide voluntary or professional care to people in need can apply to the care office. A lump sum of 425.00 euros (as of 01.01.2023) per year can be applied for for voluntary care. Volunteer caregivers are insured through a collective liability insurance policy.
-
Registration of professional guardians
Due to the new Care Organization Act (BTOG), caregivers have been obliged to register with the local care office since 01.01.2023. The remuneration of professional care is based on the Act on the Remuneration of Guardians and Caregivers (VBVG). As a rule, the costs of care are borne by the person being cared for. If they are not in a position to do so, the costs are covered by the judicial fund.
