Since 2024, the creative workshops at M2K have been working together with Hellwinkel Primary School in Wolfsburg in the "Horizons" cooperation project. The aim is to open up the school and immerse the children in the possibilities of their city in year-appropriate experiences. The main aim is to create a space in which the children can break away from traditional lessons. It is very important to the school to give the children room for appreciation. Together, we want to create a framework in which the children learn that learning can also mean experiencing, that it can also take place outside the traditional assessment norms and that the whole city offers itself for learning outside the school building.
Four exciting cultural institutions from Wolfsburg are on board! The Forum Architektur, the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, the Planetarium Wolfsburg and the Stadtmuseum im M2K share their expertise! Following each day's experience with the four expert locations, all classes come to the creative workshops at M2K on the following day and build on their experiences from the previous day in a creative way.
The repetition in each school year teaches competence in dealing with other places outside the school. It also creates a connection to the workshops. We hope that this continuity will enable the children to use the creative workshops more and more confidently over time, that they will become familiar with many materials and tools and thus be able to use them more and more independently. The workshops should become a natural part of the primary school years.
