New exhibition workshop opens at the Stadtmuseum
The new exhibition workshop #Zusammen - Deine Geschichte in Wolfsburg will be opened by the Stadtmuseum im, M2K on Sunday, July 6, at 11 a.m. in the Gartensaal of Wolfsburg Castle. The occasion is the 25th anniversary of the museum at the Schlossremisen site. The exhibition focuses on the question of what constitutes a city museum and how it can become a place of togetherness. In an open process lasting several months, the existing permanent exhibition was questioned and further developed together with Wolfsburg residents. Involved were committed individuals, a project course from the Neue Schule Wolfsburg and people from Lebenshilfe Wolfsburg. Support was also provided by VfL Wolfsburg and the ITZA Mexican Hispanic German Cultural Circle Wolfsburg
The exhibition provides personal insights into topics such as potash mining in Ehmen, women from Puebla, migration, solidarity, soccer, friendship, speedcubing as well as legends and quiet traces that were previously barely visible. The tour begins in the existing permanent exhibition, where targeted interventions open up new perspectives. The route then leads to the temporary exhibition space with a timeline and participation stations. The timeline shows all the exhibitions of the last 25 years and classifies them critically. Interviews with influential personalities from previous exhibitions provide additional insights into the mindsets and decisions of the time. Visitors are invited to delve deeper, have their say or leave their own contributions.
"This exhibition shows what is possible when museums open their doors and shape history together with the urban community," says Andreas Meyer, Head of Culture at the City of Wolfsburg. "The project is an example of open, democratic cultural work in our city," adds Kai-Uwe Hirschheide, First City Councillor and Head of Cultural Affairs for the City of Wolfsburg. "It was impressive to see how initial questions about gaps and perspectives turned into a joint process," says Fenja Fröhberg, curator for education and mediation and project manager of the exhibition. "The contributions not only tell personal stories, they also change the view of the museum and, above all, how we tell stories."
Andreas Meyer, Monika Kiekenap-Wilhelm, Director of the M2K, and Fenja Fröhberg will speak at the opening. The group Only Ladies will accompany the event with a performance, and there will also be a small supporting program. There will be games for children. Admission is free on the opening day. The exhibition will be on display in the Schlossremisen until January 25, 2026. The regular opening hours apply.
