City lowers speed limit
From August 1, the speed limit on Braunschweiger Straße in the section heading south out of town, at Burgwall-Center, will be reduced from 70 kilometers per hour to the standard speed of 50 kilometers per hour in urban areas. This decision is based on the traffic situation on the affected section of road, which has long been conspicuous.
Many road users increase their speed significantly even before the signs are put up. Current road safety data speaks for itself: in 2024 alone, almost half of all inner-city traffic violations in Wolfsburg occurred on this section of Braunschweiger Straße. This is critical insofar as Braunschweiger Straße is a so-called accident blackspot - a longer section of road on which several similar accidents have occurred in a given period. Reducing the speed limit is therefore a logical step towards improving road safety.
