150 years of the Fallersleben volunteer fire department
The anniversary program of the Fallersleben Volunteer Fire Brigade continues with the exhibition Fascination Fire Brigade. The Fallersleben Volunteer Fire Brigade through the ages, 1875 - 2025, which can be seen free of charge at the Hoffmann von Fallersleben Museum in the M2K until September 7. As part of the series of events accompanying the exhibition, which are also free of charge, honorary local fire chief Friedrich Wandschneider will be speaking at Fallersleben Castle next Thursday, August 21, at 6:30 pm.
In his talk, he will show pictures of the history of the fire department and the everyday lives of firefighters in Fallersleben and elsewhere. The audience will learn why the citizens of Fallersleben were freed from their duty to join the fire department 150 years ago and instead voluntarily organized the more effective and efficient fight against the flames in the fire brigade. The development of protective clothing from ordinary everyday clothing in the past to today's high-tech suits is also traced.
The heath fire in August 1975, in which three comrades from Fallersleben lost their lives, is also discussed. Friedrich Wandschneider himself gave a moving speech on the 50th anniversary as Fallersleben's representative in Meinersen.
