Collection curator Dr. Arne Steinert in the museum depot.
City of Wolfsburg/City Museum

The city museum in the M2K is offering a look behind the scenes on Sunday, September 21, at 2 pm. Collection curator Dr. Arne Steinert will open the otherwise inaccessible museum depot in Wolfsburg Castle. Objects are stored there, most of which were donated to the museum by members of the public - from a portable radio to a mechanical typewriter, from a retirement gift from a factory employee to a uniform from a marching band. During the tour, not only are the conditions for proper and permanent storage explained, but the collection is also indexed using a database. This ensures that the museum depot does not become a tomb for objects, but an accessible fund for temporary exhibitions of the city museum or loan requests from other museums.

As an accompanying event to the current participatory exhibition #together - your history in Wolfsburg, the depot tour also highlights gaps in the collection and gives guests suggestions on how to fill them. Due to space restrictions, the number of participants is limited to 15 people. Registration is therefore required by e-mail to stadtmuseum@stadt.wolfsburg.de or by telephone at 05361281040. The meeting point on September 21 is the museum foyer in the Schlossremisen. Only the museum entrance fee is payable for the guided tour of the depot.
