Berlin Bridge fan control
In 2020, fences and hedges were installed along the central reservation and in the peripheral area to guide soccer fans across the Berliner Brücke. This fall, additional construction projects will take place on the central reservation and in the edge area of the Berlin Bridge. On the central reservation, the fence and hedge plants will be added over a length of around 20 meters to close the existing gap. At the edge of the road in the direction of Berliner Brücke between the VW-Mittelstraße exit and the Wolfsburg Autostadt bus stop, a hedge with a rabbit protection fence will be planted over a length of around 150 meters.
Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-October. The construction period will last around three weeks. One lane will have to be closed for the work on the central reservation. To avoid major traffic restrictions, the central reservation will be built at night. Work on the hard shoulder will take place during the day. To this end, the acceleration lane at the VW-Mittelstraße exit towards Berliner Brücke will be shortened and traffic will be restricted. There may also be restrictions on the cycle and pedestrian paths. Appropriate signage will be installed.
The aim of the project is to increase safety and prevent accidents involving fans by adding hedges and fences. All projects have been coordinated with the fan leadership working group, which also includes the police and VfL Wolfsburg.
