General decree for protection against avian influenza
To protect against avian influenza, the city of Wolfsburg has issued a general order to keep poultry indoors. From October 31, 2025, it will be compulsory to keep poultry in the entire city area for flocks of 50 animals or more. The aim is to prevent contact between domestic poultry and wild birds and thus prevent the spread of the animal disease.

What exactly does the compulsory confinement mean?
Poultry must be kept either in closed stables or under a secure roof with protected side fencing.

How long does the compulsory stall apply?
The current compulsory stall obligation applies until further notice. Depending on the risk situation, it can be lifted or replaced by a new general ruling with adapted measures.
What applies to livestock owners with fewer than 50 animals?
Poultry may be kept outside if close-meshed grids or nets (mesh size less than 25 mm) are used to prevent contact with wild birds.
Has avian influenza already been detected in Wolfsburg?
No, so far there has been no confirmed case in the city area, but several cases in neighboring districts. (As of October 30, 2025)
I have found a dead wild bird - what should I do?
Dead wild birds should not be touched and should instead be left where they were found. The find should be reported to the veterinary office. Contact the veterinary office: 05361/28-2141

Dogs and cats should not come into contact with dead wild birds.
