Award-winning documentary

To mark the National Day of Mourning, the City of Wolfsburg's Integration Department invites you to a special movie night: The documentary "We are Jews from Wroclaw" will be shown at the Delphin-Palast on Monday, November 10. As a highlight, the directors Karin Kaper and Dirk Szuszies will be present and talk about the making of the film after the screening. The movie starts at 5:30 pm, admission from 4:30 pm. Admission is free, age recommendation from twelve years.

A total of 14 contemporary witnesses are at the center of the film, recalling past lives in Wrocław, the third largest Jewish community in Germany at the time. When Hitler seized power, they had to flee or go into exile, some survived the Auschwitz concentration camp. Many built a new life for themselves in the USA, England, France and also in Germany. Quite a few played a significant role in the founding and establishment of Israel. Some of them even make the journey to their former homeland, traveling to what is now Wrocław, where they meet a German-Polish youth group. Especially in times of increasing anti-Semitism, the film builds an emotional bridge from the past to a future that we all have a responsibility to shape.

The documentary was awarded the German-Polish Cultural Award Silesia 2017 as well as the Medal of Honor of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław and was also invited to major film festivals worldwide.
