Roman Catholic Bishop Pavlo Goncharuk from Kharkiv-Saporizhia (Ukraine) has now been received by Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann at Wolfsburg City Hall. Goncharuk is currently visiting the parish of St. Christophorus in Wolfsburg and also signed the city's guest book at the meeting.

"Your visit from Kharkiv means a lot to us. Especially at a time when solidarity across borders is more important than ever," emphasized Dennis Weilmann during the exchange. "In recent years, Wolfsburg has shown great commitment in establishing solidarity partnerships with the cities of Nizhyn and Shovkva and collecting donations to support the people in Ukraine."

In this context, Weilmann also thanked the St. Christophorus parish with priest Dr. Roman Krat and the chairman of the church council, Michael Sothmann, at the helm. "All the volunteers are doing a tremendous job by taking in refugees, accompanying them and helping them to start a new life here. Their commitment shows that solidarity and humanity are lived in Wolfsburg."

Bishop Pavlo Goncharuk's diocese is partly occupied by Russia. During his stay, Goncharuk will also visit Hildesheim Cathedral, the Eichendorff School and the Caritas Association in Wolfsburg. The bishop has been in contact with the parish of St. Christophorus for 20 years and asks for donations in kind and money for Ukraine.
