Deepening relations between Wolfsburg and India

Soumya Gupta, Consul General at the Indian Consulate General in Hamburg, got to know the city of Wolfsburg during an inaugural visit. In an exchange with Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann and other representatives of the city administration, possibilities for intensifying bilateral cooperation were discussed. Gupta was accompanied by Deputy Consul Pawan Devrani.

A particular focus was on the close economic ties between Wolfsburg and India. The Volkswagen Group has a large plant in Pune, India, which covers the entire production process and illustrates the long-standing partnership with Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg companies - such as Hexad - also demonstrate the strong links between the two locations. In the field of education, there are also close contacts through the Ostfalia University's Master's program - especially with students from India.

In addition, a steadily growing Indian community is shaping life in the city. With 1,210 residents of Indian nationality (as at the end of 2024), the number has increased significantly since 2020. Cultural bridges are built by the Indian Family Association and the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh e.V., among others. The city of Wolfsburg sees great potential in this exchange and will continue the dialog with the Indian Consulate General.
