From refurbishment to upgrading
Rabenbergstrasse will be partially resurfaced in 2026 - 700 square meters will be unsealed
We are renewing Rabenbergstrasse! Originally planned as a surface renovation, construction reports and chemical tests have shown that not only the asphalt layer, but also the road's substructure needs to be renewed. We are spending around two million euros on this. We are now submitting a corresponding project proposal for political consultation so that the city council can make a decision on December 10.

Cracks, leaching and subsidence are the current appearance of Rabenbergstrasse in many places. But the damage to the road structure goes deeper than what is visible to the naked eye. For this reason, we want to tackle Rabenbergstrasse in 2026. It is not yet clear exactly when, but we are currently planning to start construction in the first half of the year.
Rabenbergstrasse becomes more sustainable and attractive
"The condition of Rabenbergstrasse is not good. We will therefore take the opportunity not only to renovate the street, but also to make it more sustainable and attractive. Our concept includes an ecological and barrier-free conversion," summarizes Kai-Uwe Hirschheide, First City Councillor and City Planning Officer.
In addition to Rabenbergstraße (section Braunschweiger Straße to the Burgwall junction), the "Burgwall" street (section Rabenbergstraße to the Rabenbergstraße one-way access road) will also be renovated. We are not only renewing the roads, but also the parking lots. In "Burgwall" street, we are also redesigning the ancillary facilities and adding a green strip. In total, around 700 square meters of traffic area will be unsealed and replaced with flower beds and green spaces. In this way, we are not only enhancing the appearance of the area, but also doing something good for our city's water balance.
Bus stops become barrier-free
At the same time, the bus stops "Am Stemmelteich (North)", "Barnstorfer Weg (North)" and "Barnstorfer Weg (South)" will also be made barrier-free and adapted to the current standard. As a result, the stops have a traffic-calming effect and increase the quality of public transport. Funding of 177,000 euros has been applied for for the construction of the stops. If approved, a municipal contribution of around 12,000 euros will remain.
Over the years, Rabenbergstraße has suffered extensive damage due to periods of heavy frost and thaw. In addition, the asphalt and underlying layers have been severely compressed in the bus stop areas. For this reason, it has already been necessary to renovate individual smaller sections several times in the past to ensure road safety.
