A MARKET BUY for Nordsteimke
80,000 items on around 5,000 square meters - opening planned for the end of 2026

"It was important to us that we could quickly offer a perspective for local supply in Nordsteimke after the insolvency of REAL. We have achieved this goal together with EDEKA and WMG," says Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann. "Today's ground-breaking ceremony is the visible starting signal for a first-class offering that residents can look forward to. With MARKTKAUF, a range of goods is coming to Nordsteimke that could not be better in terms of both selection and quality."
Mark Rosenkranz, CEO of EDEKA Minden-Hannover, adds: "The new building that we are heralding here today is the result of forward-looking planning, close partnership and a clear entrepreneurial approach. Together with the city of Wolfsburg, we set the course at an early stage - for a sustainable succession concept that will enhance the location and revitalize the district. Wolfsburg-Nordsteimke was, is and will remain an attractive retail location. With this project, we are making a clear commitment to the town, the district and the region - as a local supplier, employer and partner."
EDEKA's largest store type
Over 80,000 items on average - that is EDEKA's largest store type MARKTKAUF. On a sales area of around 5,000 square meters, the local supplier will offer a comprehensive range of products in future. In addition to groceries and a fresh produce department, the range will be supplemented by a variety of non-food items. Various food outlets with seating areas round off the MARKTKAUF as a meeting place for all generations.
Modern shopping facility, efficient technology
EDEKA has also opted for modern facilities beyond the product range. The old building was completely demolished and the new one is being built with state-of-the-art technology. The photovoltaic system on the roof will supply the store with electricity in future. In addition, the store area will be heated using waste heat from the refrigeration systems, which in turn will be kept at a climate-friendly temperature using a heat pump and concrete core activation.
Once the preparatory measures have been completed, the civil engineering work is due to start in the spring of next year. The inauguration of the new MARKTKAUF is planned for the end of 2026.
