Quiet holidays in November

Commemorate, pause, remember

November is the month of remembrance. We remember the victims of war, violence and terror together, especially on Remembrance Day (Sunday, November 16) and the Sunday of the Dead (November 23). We cordially invite you to the central memorial service on Sunday, November 16, at 11:30 am at the memorial on the Klieversberg. We are organizing this ceremony together with the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e. V. - Kreisverband Wolfsburg. Following the wreath-laying ceremony, a market of opportunities will take place for the first time at the Eichendorff School. Various projects, associations and initiatives will present their work and invite visitors to exchange ideas. There will be lots of exciting ideas, space for discussions and the opportunity to make new contacts in a relaxed atmosphere.

Further commemorative events will take place at the memorial in Alt-Wolfsburg (10:15 am), at the Waldfriedhof (10:45 am), at the memorial in Werderstraße (11:00 am) and at the Laagberg memorial stone (11:15 am). We cordially invite all interested citizens to participate.

Celebrities collect donations for a good cause

This year, we once again joined well-known faces from Wolfsburg to collect donations for the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e. V. (German War Graves Commission). We were joined by honorary citizens as well as representatives from politics and administration - together with the Wolfsburg reservist comradeship and the district liaison command of the German Armed Forces. In addition to the fundraising campaign, pupils from Eichendorff School also got involved and collected donations.

The campaign last Saturday raised a total of over 650 euros. The money will go towards the care of war graves at home and abroad as well as educational projects for children and young people.

What is allowed - and what is not - on public holidays

In November, we remember special days of silence and remembrance. Remembrance Day, the Day of Prayer and Repentance and the Sunday of the Dead are not only marked in the calendar - they also entail restrictions for events and businesses. We have summarized for you here what is and is not allowed on these days.

What applies on the days of remembrance:

Special regulations apply in Lower Saxony - and therefore also here in Wolfsburg. The background to this is the Lower Saxony Public Holidays Act, which protects the character of commemoration on these days.

This applies to:

  • National Day of Mourning on November 16
  • Day of Repentance and Prayer on November 19
  • Sunday of the Dead on November 23

On these days, not everything that might otherwise be part of everyday life is permitted. We summarize the most important rules for you:

What is forbidden?

On Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday, no public events with an entertainment character may take place from 5 a.m. onwards. This includes

  • Festivals and parties with loud music or dancing
  • Entertainment programs in restaurants
  • Events with parades or other celebrations

Amusement arcades must also remain closed on these two days.

The restrictions are somewhat shorter on the Day of Prayer and Repentance: the ban on events applies from 7 am to 11 am.

Why all this?

These days are dedicated to silent remembrance - be it for the victims of war and violence or in a private setting for deceased relatives. As a city, we want to ensure that this special character is preserved.
