Together for the future

Advent talk with Volkswagen: Together, courageous, motivated

A strong signal at the end of the year: The city of Wolfsburg and Volkswagen reaffirm their close partnership. The traditional Advent discussion focused on what has been - and above all what is to come.

A shared history, a shared future - this was the message from the leaders of the city, Volkswagen, the Group Works Council and politicians at this year's Advent meeting. It is a strong sign of togetherness in turbulent times. The focus was on topics that directly affect many in Wolfsburg: the situation in the city and the Group, inner city development and the 2035 location concept.

We are shaping Wolfsburg together

"Wolfsburg and Volkswagen simply belong together. This connection is unique and the economic engine of our city and the entire region," says Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann. And he makes it clear: "We have taken an important step forward in many projects this year - especially in the development of the city center, in investment in education and infrastructure and in the development of the science and business location. This clearly shows that we are and will remain Volkswagen's reliable partner in all areas. We are drawing a clear picture of the Wolfsburg of the future and are working together every day to make it a reality."

Reliability on both sides

Volkswagen has also made a clear commitment to its partnership with the city. Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, emphasizes: "Wolfsburg can rely on Volkswagen - and Volkswagen can rely on Wolfsburg. This mutual trust is what makes the close ties between the city and the company so lively and stable. As the largest employer, we assume social responsibility in our home town of Wolfsburg. Our commitment to art, culture, science, education and sport is the foundation for sustainable cooperation in society. We will continue our long-standing partnerships in 2026 - and work with the city to shape Wolfsburg's future as a driving force in the region."

Tackling challenges together

The close ties between the city and the Group are particularly evident in challenging times. Daniela Cavallo, Chairwoman of the General and Group Works Council, says: "Volkswagen and Wolfsburg can only work together. The truth behind this sentence becomes all the clearer in difficult times. We have a lot to overcome as Volkswagen and the region. The December agreement following last year's conflict is intended to contribute to making our company fit for the future. The hard-negotiated compromise has preserved all our sites and restored job security better than before."

However, she also makes it clear: "But it also means tough cuts for our employees. Many thousands of jobs will be cut in a socially responsible manner at all VW locations and especially here in Wolfsburg. This has a direct impact on the region. Against this background, the administration and politicians are working on the 2035 location concept. Volkswagen experts are also involved here. Because it still applies: Wolfsburg and Volkswagen stand side by side."
