The city's environmental challenge
This year, the City of Wolfsburg's environmental challenge, organized by the NaturErkundungsSTation (NEST) together with the Green Division, focused on the topic of heat - an aspect that is becoming increasingly important in view of the growing number of extreme weather conditions. Despite a mixed summer with occasional rain showers, heat remains a key challenge for plants, animals and people - especially in urban areas.
Citizens were asked to photograph places in Wolfsburg that offer pleasant retreats with trees or greenery. Elke Schulz's picture was selected from the entries. It shows the outside wall of a building that is heavily overgrown with climbing plants and bushes. She received a small thank you for her efforts, presented by Christoph Andacht, Head of the School Division, which includes NEST.
The environmental challenge has once again shown that environmental and climate protection is more than just a political goal. It directly affects people's everyday lives. At the same time, it creates opportunities for exchange and participation and can even be fun. Further information is available at www.wolfsburg.de/nest.
