One year of the economic agenda

Part 3: Shaping Wolfsburg's future together

Setting the course for the future and working together to maintain Wolfsburg as a business location - that was the basic idea behind the 10-point plan for Wolfsburg's economy presented by Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann and Head of Economic Affairs Jens Hofschröer around a year ago. In implementing the plan, we are also looking inwards and want to improve the administrative organization and services, for example.

A view over Wolfsburg

We also fulfill our self-imposed requirements on an emotional level. The new Wolf auf Burg logo, which has adorned our publications since October 2025, creates identification through its history and combines tradition with the future. At the same time, we have answered an important question about the future of support for volunteers in Wolfsburg with the succession of the head of the Volunteer Office. The aim is to promote volunteer work even more strongly in order to highlight this indispensable commitment. Strong and reliable cohesion in the city's society has always been an important factor in Wolfsburg's success.

The alliance of mayors from Germany's automotive locations is taking the same line. With the 7-point paper For a strong automotive location, the fundamental needs of the "car cities" are strongly represented to the state and federal political level.

A strong alliance between the city and Volkswagen - not least at the Advent meeting in December 2025 - clearly shows that Volkswagen is committed to Wolfsburg and that the city administration remains a reliable partner to the automotive group.

Together with Volkswagen AG, we are driving forward the strategic development of the business location with great dynamism. With Wolfsburg AG as a joint subsidiary - supported by external expertise and in close cooperation with politicians and other relevant stakeholders - we are currently working intensively on the Wolfsburg 2035 location concept. The aim is to develop new perspectives for Wolfsburg's economic future at an early stage and to consistently develop the existing strengths, particularly in the automotive industry. In doing so, Wolfsburg is focusing on the "related diversity" approach, which aims to bundle and promote related industries, skills and technologies in a targeted manner. The ambitious timetable underlines the fact that the process is already well advanced: the location concept should be available by spring 2026 and thus form the basis for a subsequent strategic vision process with the broad participation of citizens, politicians and other stakeholders.
