Pruning ban for woody plants from March

From March 1, trees and shrubs are subject to a nationwide legal ban on pruning in accordance with the Federal Nature Conservation Act. Up to and including September 30, trees outside of forests and horticultural areas as well as hedges, bushes and other woody plants may not be cut, pruned or removed. The aim of the regulation is to protect wild animals and plants during the breeding and rearing season.

Only careful shaping and maintenance pruning is permitted, for example to keep trees healthy, as long as no reproduction or resting places of animals are affected. The city of Wolfsburg asks all citizens to take this into account when tending their gardens. Violations of the ban can be punished with fines.

The city provides further information online at wolfsburg.de/environmental-nature-protection/nature-protection/tree-protection. In addition, the city's Lower Nature Conservation Authority is available to answer questions by e-mail at naturschutz@stadt.wolfsburg.de or by telephone at 05361282830.
