Four years of war in Ukraine
Commemorative event on February 24 at the town hall square
Four years after the start of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, we are inviting you to a commemorative event together with the German-Ukrainian Association Wolfsburg. It will take place on Tuesday, February 24, from 5 p.m. on the town hall square. Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann and the chairwoman of the association, Anastasiia Repiakh, will speak.

The war in Ukraine has now been going on for four years. Together with many committed people in our city, we want to pause, remember and set a sign of solidarity.
After the speeches, the Ukrainian anthem will be sung. Afterwards, the Ukrainian children's choir of the German-Ukrainian Association will perform. Members of the association share their thoughts on war, flight and arrival and light candles. A minute's silence concludes the commemorative event.
"The Russian war of aggression and its consequences are and remain devastating. Even four years after the invasion of Ukraine, this war concerns us all: It has thrown us back to times we thought we had overcome and has shaken the European security order for good. The inviolability of borders, sovereignty, the right to self-determination and the application of rules and law are non-negotiable. We remain firmly on the side of the people in Ukraine," affirms Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann.
Solidarity that goes further
Since September 2023, we have been linked to two solidarity partner cities in Ukraine, Shovkva and Nizhyn. In addition to organized aid transports, we collect donations together with the German Red Cross: wolfsburg.de/rathaus/spenden_fuer_ukraine.
We were recently able to hand over a coach to Nischyn. It was financed by Engagement Global's small project fund. The bus will be used there for school transportation.
Further information and insights into our solidarity partnerships with Shovkva and Nizhyn can be found at wolfsburg.de/solidaritaetspartnerschaft.
