The wastewater is drained either in a separate system, i.e. rainwater and wastewater are drained into different pipes, or together in a combined system.
The transfer point from your private pipe to the public sewer network is the property boundary in Wolfsburg and Königslutter. In Boldecker Land this ends:
- the public wastewater and combined sewage systems behind the transfer manhole on your property or, in the case of pressure drainage, with the shut-off device on your property, but no later than two meters behind the property boundary,
- and the public rainwater systems at the property boundary.

In order to connect your property to the public sewerage system, it is necessary to apply for the missing connection in writing to the WEB. The WEB creates the connections for a fee and usually places them 1-2 meters onto your property. The construction and modification of property drainage systems are subject to approval. Please inform yourself and apply for the missing connections early!
Submit drainage application at least four weeks before the start of construction
The construction and modification of property drainage systems are subject to approval. A drainage application must be submitted in writing to the WEB in advance of the construction work. All construction work may not be started until the drainage permit has been issued. The wastewater facilities may only be put into operation after acceptance by the WEB. Fees are charged for permits and acceptance in accordance with the administrative cost statutes. Corresponding forms for the drainage application can be found here:
For construction projects in the Wolfsburg municipal area:
According to the Lower Saxony Local Rates Act (NKAG), local authorities can levy contributions to cover their costs for the construction, acquisition, expansion, improvement and renewal of their public facilities from property owners who have particular economic advantages from using these public facilities.
Why?
Defective drainage systems can lead to soil contamination and contamination of the sewers by groundwater entering the system. In order to be able to detect and repair damage in good time, wastewater systems - just like your car or your heating system - must be inspected regularly. As the owner of the property and thus of the wastewater facilities, you are responsible for their maintenance on your property.
By maintaining your private wastewater facilities, you ensure your personal drainage comfort and preserve the value of your property.
When.
In the case of new construction of a private wastewater system or significant structural changes, such as renovation of a pipeline, the tightness of the underground wastewater and combined sewer systems must be proven in the course of the construction work. Existing private wastewater systems should be inspected at regular intervals to determine their condition.
First of all, you should carefully inform yourself about the topic of leak testing of private wastewater systems and review your own documents. The WEB will be pleased to inform and advise you.
How?
Existing wastewater systems with domestic wastewater can be tested by a visual inspection with a camera or by a pressure test with water or air.
Newly constructed underground wastewater pipes and manholes must be tested for leaks using a pressure test with water or air. Upon presentation of the documentation of the successfully passed leak test, the WEB will issue the Wolfsburg Leakage Certificate - seal of quality of a leak-proof property drainage system - free of charge.
Who?
In the WEB disposal area, leak tests may only be carried out by experts who have demonstrated the required expertise to WEB in advance. If you have any questions about the suitability of a company, please contact WEB.
Help to maintain a functional and reliable sewer network.
For economic reasons, public sewers cannot be dimensioned for every exceptional event. In the event of a severe thunderstorm with heavy precipitation, the volume of wastewater generated can overload the rainwater and combined sewers. In the worst case, the wastewater backs up so much that it runs out of the sewers onto the street or even into basements. You can find out how to protect yourself against this so-called "backwater" in our information sheet.
Over time, wastewater pipes and manholes of the house connection can become in need of rehabilitation. This may be necessary due to improper installation, but also due to aging or wear processes. Our information sheet provides information on types of damage, rehabilitation options and costs.
If extraneous water contaminates the wastewater pipes, this can lead to flooding in the sewer system and, in the worst case, even to flooding in the basement. But how does this happen?
