Buildings that are suitable for solar power generation are marked on the solar cadastre map in the colors red, orange or yellow. The chapter "What the map says" contains more information on this.
Do you want to install a solar system on the roof of your building? Then read on in the chapter "Investing in solar power systems".

What does the solar cadastre data tell us?
Photovoltaics
All roofs on which it is possible to make sensible use of solar radiation through solar power systems have been recorded and evaluated.
The orientation and inclination of the roofs are primarily decisive for utilization. Shading from trees and neighboring buildings was also taken into account. Shading is primarily a problem for solar power systems. A shadow on a small part of the system can already lead to a considerable drop in performance in the overall system. An assessment was therefore only carried out for roofs on which there is a contiguous shadow-free area of at least 10 square meters.
The usable roof areas are assigned. The color green indicates "very good", orange "good" and yellow "conditional" use. The usable area of the roof is also shown for representations at a scale of 1 : 2000 and above. The values of a roof area can be displayed by clicking on the blue i button in the toolbar.
The data acquisition and calculation method does not allow absolute certainty for the evaluation of roof areas. It is always worth taking a look at the roof. Sometimes a minor change, such as moving ventilation pipes, is enough to make a roof area suitable for solar energy or to increase the area shown.
Solar thermal systems
The calculations have been carried out for the installation of solar power systems. The marked areas are also suitable for solar thermal. Solar water heating systems are insensitive to minor shading. A roof may therefore be suitable for solar thermal systems even if it is not rated and has been grayed out on the map.

Promotion of solar thermal systems
Promotion of solar thermal systems
Solar thermal systems are subsidized by the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA).
Information on BAFA's funding program and the forms required to apply can be obtained directly from BAFA under the keyword "Renewable Energies".

Investment in photovoltaics
Solar power systems are a safe investment, as they provide a predictable return on investment thanks to the feed-in tariff. Once contractually agreed, the feed-in tariffs are granted over a period of 20 years.
Approximate yields from PV systems can be calculated using solar calculators.

Statistics on Wolfsburg's solar potential
Wolfsburg's roofs offer great potential for the use of solar energy. Over 2.6 million square meters of roof area in total have been identified in the categories "very suitable", "well suitable" and "conditionally suitable". On this, 263,000 megawatt hours of electricity could be generated annually. This amount of electricity would avoid 114,000 tons of carbon dioxide, which is almost ¼ of Wolfsburg's emissions (excluding Volkswagen).
