Porschestraße utilization manual including immediate measures Wolfsburg

Coordination of needs / demands on public space, identification of potential areas and utilization perspectives as well as their testing.

Blaue Grafik

A lively, climate-friendly Wolfsburg city center with a variety of uses - that is the goal of the "Porschestraße usage manual including immediate measures" project formulated in the city center roadmap. It is being implemented as part of the "Resilient inner cities" funding program of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

With the update of the usage manual and the immediate measures, we are bringing a project from the city center roadmap to visible implementation. At the same time, we are creating a reliable, digital tool that strategically coordinates the different usage requirements and prepares the necessary infrastructure.

  • Why a user manual for Porschestrasse?

The Porschestraße usage manual regulates important aspects such as escape routes, catering and event areas as well as the integration of infrastructure and leisure facilities. The usage handbook compiles relevant data (building stock, planning, pipe locations, etc.) in a single system and identifies areas for special uses such as events and outdoor catering. It thus forms the central basis for the revitalization of the pedestrian zone - both by private actors and by WMG's city management. The reliable digital tool can be used to better coordinate usage requirements strategically and prepare the necessary infrastructure.

The specific aim of the update is to identify potential areas in the public space. This is done by recording and reorganizing current and future usage requirements. These potential areas are to be put to attractive long-term use, e.g. through play, sports and recreational facilities, and used for climate adaptation.

At the same time, temporary immediate measures to increase the quality of stay will be implemented on possible potential areas from summer 2025 to 2028 in order to actively test new uses.

  • Immediate measures

Parallel to the development of the usage handbook, immediate measures to increase the quality of stay will be implemented in spring and summer from mid-2025 to 2028 in order to actively test new uses such as play, sports and recreation facilities. The 2025 measures are part of the City of Wolfsburg's City Immediate Action Program.
Citizens' feedback plays an important role here. They can use QR codes on mein.wolfsburg.de to rate the respective type of use and its location. The measures include a mobile 3×3 basketball court as well as shaded and green seating. The findings from the immediate measures will be incorporated into the utilization manual as recommendations for the structural redesign of identified potential areas. In order to identify further potential areas, it is planned to relocate the various facilities over the course of the project.
    • 3x3 basketball
    • Boulder block
    • Mobile green room
    • Bouncing and ground games participation area - there's space here!
Locations 2025 and further information on the individual measures can be found here.

  • Usage rules for the immediate measures:

    • Use of the facilities is at your own risk and peril! Parents are liable for their children.
    • Time of use daily from 08:00 to 22:00
    • Use of the facilities is free of charge and generally possible without advance booking/reservation. During the implementation of specific offers, the facilities cannot be used or can only be used to a limited extent.
    • The facilities must be used in such a way that they are not damaged and/or contaminated.
    • When using the facilities, care must be taken to ensure that no one is endangered, harmed, hindered or inconvenienced.
    • Waste must be disposed of in the bins provided or taken away.
    • The consumption of alcoholic beverages, smoking and the use of drugs in the activity areas is prohibited.

  • Participation

Participation takes place as part of the development of the usage manual and during the testing of the immediate measures.

The authorities, institutes, companies and property owners affected by their concerns will be involved in the development process.

Participation in the immediate measures will take place via the Wolfsburg participation platform mein.wolfsburg.de. QR codes on the steles can be used to evaluate the measures and their location on site, and suggestions and tips for alternative locations can be submitted. On-site inspections will also take place with the Children's and Youth Advisory Council.
