A lively, climate-friendly Wolfsburg city center with a variety of uses - that is the goal of the "Porschestraße usage manual including immediate measures" project formulated in the city center roadmap. It is being implemented as part of the "Resilient inner cities" funding program of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
With the update of the usage manual and the immediate measures, we are bringing a project from the city center roadmap to visible implementation. At the same time, we are creating a reliable, digital tool that strategically coordinates the different usage requirements and prepares the necessary infrastructure.

Why a user manual for Porschestrasse?
The Porschestraße usage manual regulates important aspects such as escape routes, catering and event areas as well as the integration of infrastructure and leisure facilities. The usage handbook compiles relevant data (building stock, planning, pipe locations, etc.) in a single system and identifies areas for special uses such as events and outdoor catering. It thus forms the central basis for the revitalization of the pedestrian zone - both by private actors and by WMG's city management. The reliable digital tool can be used to better coordinate usage requirements strategically and prepare the necessary infrastructure.
The specific aim of the update is to identify potential areas in the public space. This is done by recording and reorganizing current and future usage requirements. These potential areas are to be put to attractive long-term use, e.g. through play, sports and recreational facilities, and used for climate adaptation.
At the same time, temporary immediate measures to increase the quality of stay will be implemented on possible potential areas from summer 2025 to 2028 in order to actively test new uses.

Immediate measures
Parallel to the development of the usage handbook, immediate measures to increase the quality of stay will be implemented in spring and summer from mid-2025 to 2028 in order to actively test new uses such as play, sports and recreation facilities. The 2025 measures are part of the City of Wolfsburg's City Immediate Action Program.Citizens' feedback plays an important role here. They can use QR codes on mein.wolfsburg.de to rate the respective type of use and its location. The measures include a mobile 3×3 basketball court as well as shaded and green seating. The findings from the immediate measures will be incorporated into the utilization manual as recommendations for the structural redesign of identified potential areas. In order to identify further potential areas, it is planned to relocate the various facilities over the course of the project.
