• Background: Why a participatory square?

  The Wolfsburg city center development concept focuses on a sustainable, diverse and liveable city center, which will become even more attractive through greater involvement of citizens and clubs. The "MITMACH-Platz" project supports this objective by actively involving the local community in the design and revitalization of the city centre.

  "MITMACH-Platz" is a sub-measure of the "Porschestraße usage manual including immediate measures in Wolfsburg" funding project. By regulating the numerous usage requirements, the Porschestraße usage manual forms the central basis for the revitalization of the pedestrian zone. As part of the overall project, potential areas for future measures to increase the quality of stay and adapt to climate change in public spaces are to be identified. Future uses are to be actively tested with accompanying temporary immediate measures.

• To MITMACH Square - What, how and where?

  Location:

  You will find the MITMACH-Platz in the pedestrian zone of Porschestraße at Hugo-Bork-Platz in the heart of our city center. If you would prefer to hold an event at a different location, this is also possible in principle. The WMG city management will check possible locations and their availability together with you.

  An important note: Unfortunately, there is not as much space in Porschestraße as it seems at first glance. The fire department has to be able to drive through Porschestraße 24/7 and, if necessary, guide people. There must always be enough space for this. Therefore, your event cannot take place everywhere. In addition, the MITMACH square and other areas may already be occupied by other events.

  Costs:

  If your event has a predominantly social, cultural and sporting character, there are no fees for the use of public space. The City Management colleagues will check with you whether this is the case.

  For safety reasons, your event must still be applied for with the city and certain points must be clarified in advance. Don't worry, we'll support you here too!

• Fundamentals

  Events are in season in Wolfsburg all year round: Whether street festivals, flea markets, sporting events, open-air concerts, public viewing - or other events - the city and its citizens like to join in the celebrations.

  Many associations and volunteers have been organizing a wide variety of events for years. As organizers, however, more and more scenarios have to be taken into account to ensure the safety of visitors. Lessons are learned from incidents at past events. For example, the conditions of the site, correctly estimating the number of visitors and observing the weather conditions are becoming increasingly important.

  To ensure that you, as a volunteer organizer, are not left alone with the various requirements, notifications and applications, City Management, together with the city's central coordination office for events, will assist you with all questions and with the planning of the event.
