The plucked instruments belong to the stringed instruments. They belong to the oldest musical instruments. The best-known plucked instrument is certainly the guitar, in the form of the concert guitar or the electric guitar. The latter has a certain cult status in today's rock and pop world.

The music school of the city of Wolfsburg offers guitar, electric bass and harp lessons in the field of plucked instruments.

Since its beginnings around 70 years ago, the electric guitar has had a decisive influence on the world of music. Rock and pop music would be unthinkable without this versatile instrument. Different variations in construction and the tonal possibilities of amplification allow it to be used in a wide variety of styles such as folk, blues, rock, pop, jazz or Latin. It offers beginners and advanced players many possibilities for expression.

Impressive results can be achieved even with simple means. Practice the playing techniques of the electric guitar step by step. You will also learn how to use your newly acquired skills in a band. Classical music knowledge and theoretical basics that you need for songwriting, for example, are just as much a part of the lessons as learning the guitar tablature.

In its 70-year history, the electric bass has undergone a rapid development that is far from over.

Initially intended as an alternative to the double bass in louder bands, it is now an indispensable accompaniment and solo instrument in all musical genres from jazz to metal.

By including the bass ukulele as a teaching instrument, lessons can begin from the age of 6. Previous knowledge is not necessary. With a few exceptions, lessons take place on a one-to-one basis.

  • Harp

The harp is one of the oldest instruments in the world. With its gently floating sound of the numerous free-swinging strings, it touches many people in a very special way. The special handling to create different sound patterns with both hands can be very complicated, which often makes practicing a challenge. However, the harp sounds immediate even to the beginner, and simple melodies or repetitive sound sequences, such as in early music or the traditional melodies of Irish, Breton or Scottish folklore, promise early success. In addition, the harp offers a therapeutic effect through its sounds, which are generally perceived as soothing. Improvising sound patterns, folk songs of different countries, original compositions from the Middle Ages to the modern age to jazz and pop arrangements - the harp offers a wide range of different musical styles.

This is what the harp sounds like:

At what age can you start playing the harp?
The harp can be learned from the age of 6, and there are instruments in various sizes. Depending on your personal development or musical taste, you can choose to play the diatonic hook harp or the more chromatic concert harp, which also involves the feet.

Where can I get a suitable instrument?

The music school has a loan instrument which, if available, can be borrowed at the in-house rate for a maximum of 1 year.

Where can I play the harp?
The harp already sounds very beautiful as a solo instrument, as you can also accompany your own melodies. The music school also offers advanced students the opportunity to play together in a harp ensemble. If you love orchestral playing and own a concert harp, you can even play in the music school orchestra later on.
